New Batch Of PRIME Students
PRIME Students arrive from UCSD 25th June for 9 week research collaboration with Message Lab researchers.
For the fourth year running, Message Lab will host a group of Comp Sci/Bio Med undergraduates from UCSD who are connected with regular Message Lab research projects via their supervisors and people at other universities. It has been a very successful way to immerse bright undergraduates in both the world of hands-on research at the cutting edge and also, the culture of Melbourne and Australia. There have been some very good outcomes over the life of the program and students stay connected on the projects and in touch with Message Lab researchers over a lengthy period.
The nature of the PRIME (Pacific Rim Undergraduate Experiences Program) is well explained at http://prime.ucsd.edu/index.htm
UCSD has listed the 2008 student program as one of its Top 5 News Items for June 2008 saying:
'''Advancing grid-technology research*…A record number of students from UC San Diego are en route to research institutions around the Pacific Rim as part of a program that lets them spend the summer doing hands-on research into cyberinfrastructure and its uses. The 21 students – more than double last year’s class – are part of the Pacific Rim Experiences for Undergraduates (PRIME) program. Read about the students and their ambitious projects here http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/general/06-08PRIME.asp '''
Monash has accepted the value of this program and has allowed it to be reciprocal in 2008 so that up to five Monash students can visit UCSD from December 2008.
