The students selected for travel December 2008-February 2009, and their research projects, were:
- Mr. Hoang Nguyen [BSE], who worked with San Diego Supercomputer Center expert, Ms Ilkay Altintas, on a software engineering oriented project involving the Kepler scientific workflow engine;
- Ms. Li Guanghua (Aimee) [BCS], who worked with Dr. Wilfred Li on the virtual screening for inhibitors against avian influenza;
- Mr. Nicholas Barnes [BSc/BCS], who worked with Professors Andrew McCulloch and Roy Kerckhoffs on the software simulation of the heart; and
- Mr. Peter Serwylo [BITS], who worked with Dr. Jurgen Schulze on the visualization of 3D city models using large mega-pixel tiled display walls.
